Boston is a pretty compact city, and I was surprised by how many ethical fashion stores I found just walking around. They're in neighbourhoods you already want to visit, South End and Back Bay.

The second half of this post is a little travel guide of my personal recommendations: green beauty shops, conscious eats, and fun stuff to do in one of America's oldest cities. I put it all together in a Google Map at the bottom of this post.

VIOLA LOVELY, 1409 Washington St — Curated designer pieces with a focus on craftsmanship. (Where I tried on that silver Blazé Milano blazer.)

BOOMERANGS SPECIAL EDITION, 1407 Washington St — Charity thrift store supporting AIDS Action. Boomerang has various locations throughout the city, but their Special Edition store has curated designer goods.

OLIVES & GRACE, 623 Tremont St — High-quality gifts that are ethically sourced or made by locals. Green beauty products are available here too.

THIRD PIECE, 623 Tremont St — Knitwear made in house. Also offers knitting classes.

PATCH NYC, The Courtyard at 46 Waltham Street
(corner of Washington Street) — Home and fashion accessories, many designed in house.

ASH & ROSE, 460 Harrison Ave suite c6 (GPS address: 367 Albany St) — Eco-conscious womenswear. This is the only shop I couldn't visit in person because I found out about it too late.

Back Bay, Boston

ATHLETA, 92 Newbury St — Athleticwear brand owned by Gap, but they are a B Corp and 60% of their materials are made with sustainable fibers.

M.M. LAFLEUR, 119 Newbury St, Floor 1 — Elevated clothes for the office. A showroom for their online shop where you can make an appointment with a stylist and try things on. Works with ethical factories in NYC and abroad.

MARINE LAYER, 142 Newbury St — Super soft tees made in LA or SF. Their Re-Spun collection is 100% recycled.

ILLESTEVA, 182 Newbury St — Sunglasses designed in New York, made in Italy and France.

ALLBIRDS, 205 Newbury St — Comfortable walking shoes made with natural and recycled materials. B Corp.

BY CHLOE., 3 locations — Popular vegan and plant-based fast-food chain.  Uses organic, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Their plastics are compostable.

LIFE ALIVE ORGANIC CAFE, 431 Boylston — Quick eatery with the most delicious healthy meals and smoothies.

TATTE BAKERY, various locations (I frequented the one on 399 Boylston street) — Instagram bait cafe chain with hearty pastries and filling healthy meals.

FOMU ICE CREAM, 655 Tremont St & 140 Brookline Ave — Ice cream made with coconut milk and a blend of organic, natural sweeteners. All natural, preservative-free and made by hand.

MOTHER JUICE, 291 Newbury St & 100 Hangover St — fresh juice, smoothies, and healthy meals.

Places to Visit in Boston

BOSTON PUBLIC GARDEN, 4 Charles St — A large park in the heart of Boston, it was the first public botanical garden in America, established in 1837. It's gorgeous!

BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY, 700 Boylston St — One of America's oldest libraries and the fourth-largest public library in the United States by total collection.  Take a tour, study in the Reading Room, or unwind in the beautiful courtyard.

BEACON HILL — Take a walk in this quaint, historic neighbourhood of brick sidewalks and narrow gaslit streets. Acorn Street is the most photographed street in Boston.

ISABELLA STEWART GARDNER MUSEUM — Museum housing European, Asian, and American art. The building, which emulates a 15th-century Venetian palace, was commissioned to be built in 1903 by Isabella Gardner, a prominent art collector.
