After a couple of ethical underwear brands reached out to me in the same week offering to send sustainable underwear sets to test drive, I took it as a sign to compile the ultimate list of ethical and sustainable underwear brands.
Most of the brands are from Canada or the US, but there are a few international ones. I've included info on which country they ship from and their shipping policies whenever possible so you can better determine whether you need to pay duties.
I've also noted which brands make underwear for men and children.
The Canadian online retailer of ethical lingerie now has a sustainable in-house line of organic cotton underwear made in Winnipeg. Azura Bay gifted me their new Classic Bralette and Classic Bikini in beige. I've worn them for over a month, and they are so soft and comfy. I barely feel that I'm wearing the bralette. Azura Bay ships to Canada and the US.
Boody makes comfortable underwear and everyday basics for men, women, and babies. Using bamboo viscose, the clothes are produced ethically in China, Vietnam, and India. I've found their products in health food stores in Toronto, and they are stocked in retail stores around the world. They also ship to select countries from shipping centers within that country. For example, Canadian orders will ship from Canada.
Canadian B Corp KOTN has a new line of comfy cotton underwear—bralettes, bandeau-style bras, panties—ethically made in Egypt with Egyptian cotton. They have free international shipping for orders over $150.
WAMA Underwear makes comfortable hemp underwear for men and women. Hemp is natural, organic, and sustainable, but it gets a bad rap for being a rough and scratchy fabric. WAMA gifted me a set to try—the green racerback bralette and high-waisted underwear—and I was pleasantly surprised by how soft they were. I love the colour and wear this set all the time. While cotton is still softer, hemp is a sturdy fabric that's naturally anti-bacterial with anti-odour properties. It's breathable and should get softer with every wash. WAMA is US-based and ships internationally.
Canadian B Corp clothing brand tentree now makes sustainable underwear for men and women. They are designed in Canada and made ethically in Turkey from Tencel x Refibra and organic cotton. With every purchase, tentree plants trees on your behalf.
Sustainable brand PACT's organic cotton clothing is made in Fair Trade factories. They make clothes, which include underwear, for men, women, kids, and babies. PACT is based in the US and ships internationally, but I've found PACT underwear in my local Whole Foods.

Designed in Toronto and ethically made in Montreal, Mary Young makes comfortable lingerie and intimates. Some of their collection is made from rayon from bamboo. Their sizes are up to 2XL. Naja makes eco-conscious lingerie. Instead of being dyed, they are digitally printed so the water waste is next to none. They are incorporating more recycled plastic into their collections. A certified B Corp, Saalt is a company that promotes reusable period care. In addition to their line of thin and comfortable leakproof underwear, they also have reusable period cups. They ship from the US internationally, but they're currently unable to ship to Canada, Brazil, or Japan.
