Can You Manifest from a Negative Place? Yes! These 3 Powerful States Create Change
A lot of manifesting advice implies we need to maintain a high-vibe state, that we should avoid negative people, negative emotions, and anything that disrupts happy thoughts. So when we inevitably feel fear, frustration, or sadness, we blame ourselves and worry that we are blocking our manifestations.
While it is important to feel good as much as possible, being constantly happy is not realistic. We live in a world of polarity, which means we will inevitably experience the full range of human emotions. In fact, we are here to experience just that, the drama of it all.
Instead of struggling to escape negative states or spiritually bypassing them, we can work with whatever state we are currently in. I have manifested things, both big and small, while feeling anxious, discouraged, or burnt out. Why? Because negative energy is still energy, and we can alchemize it to our benefit.
I believe there are three primary states from which we manifest. There may be others, but they most likely fall under these main categories. Only one is traditionally “positive.” The other two are from messy, deeply human places. All three work.

1. The Surrender State
This is the state you reach when you've hit rock bottom. You've tried everything, and nothing has worked. All the setbacks have beaten you down, and you're exhausted fighting against the current all the time. You're so frustrated and depleted that you finally give up.
The power in this state comes from the ego death. When you admit defeat, the ego dissolves, and you stop gripping for control and trying to force outcomes. This allows you to let go and surrender to a greater power.
It can feel like failure, but when you can admit to yourself that you can't do this on your own and pray for help, you turn your situation over to the Creator.
In surrendering, miracles can happen. Your energy loosens from clenching, so you become soft and open enough to receive. The shattering from this broken state creates room for expansion. And when you're so exhausted that you don't even care if it happens anymore, you stop obsessing over the outcome.
You can't fake this state. Nobody actively chooses to be here, to feel this hopeless, but if you find yourself at rock bottom, make it work for you. Surrender and pray. This allows room for the Creator to step in and help you.
2. The Desperation State
This may sound similar to the Surrender State, but it's different. Instead of hitting rock bottom and feeling drained, the Desperation State generates a surge of energy. Your current circumstance is no longer tolerable, and the desperation to get out of it snaps you into action. It creates a "whatever it takes to succeed" mindset where you are willing to knock on every door.
It's reactive and driven by fear, but this intensity becomes fuel. Failure is not an option. Because you'll do anything to change, you stop caring what people think and zero in on the result.
People sometimes intentionally put themselves in this state by burning bridges because it forces movement. For example, someone might quit a stable but unfulfilling job or give away their inheritance so they have the motivation to start the business they've always wanted.
The Desperation State works because it lights a fire under your ass, but it has a limit. This state is more about chasing/hunting, which does take a lot of energy. Once you use up all the fuel, you'll eventually feel burnt out if you try to stay here. However, this state is very effective in getting you out of a rut. Action creates momentum, and the universe will meet you with aligned people and opportunities when it's clear you're serious about reaching your goal.
3. The Flow State
This is the state to master once you get out of survival mode. It is calm, grounded, and aligned. You trust that the end result is coming, even if you don't know when or how. You know you are guided, and instead of taking action from fear or desperation, you follow your intuition and take inspired action that feels easy and natural.
When the first two states depend on intensity and drama, the Flow State is chill. Instead of hunting and striving, it's about allowing yourself to receive. Your nervous system feels safe, and that safety creates openness.
In this state, you are not chasing outcomes or trying to outrun discomfort. Instead, you are naturally magnetizing aligned people and experiences to you. Things unfold with far less effort. This is the best state to be in. It requires being comfortable in the unknown and having certainty. I will write more about this in the near future.
Which State Are You In?
You don't need to be perfectly positive all the time to manifest. Eliminating all fear and doubt is downright impossible. Life doesn't work like that.
When you understand which state you're currently in, you can work with your energy instead of fighting it. All three states allow you to consciously create, and they each carry their own power.
If you are in a heavy or difficult chapter right now, don't assume manifestation is out of reach for you. Often, your “negative place” is the doorway into your next level.
